Beyond the crown
The annual Mr and Miss Lemmer pageant was held on 2 August 2025. I was lucky enough to be in the audience, and let me tell you, the air in the hall practically vibrated with anticipation for the annual competition.
This wasn’t just a beauty contest; it was a celebration of our community’s future leadership.
The emotional high point came when Lee-Chante Jansen was crowned Miss Lemmer. Her victory felt like a genuine moment of jubilation. She carried herself with such confidence, and you could feel the excitement ripple through the crowd when her name was announced.
Lee-Chante was joined by the poised Nevera Draghoender, who was named first princess; the captivating Jamilah Carew, who was chosen as second princess; and Jaylen Titus, who took the title of Miss Personality.
The event itself was a spectacular show, serving as a powerful reminder of the wealth of talent we have right here. The music, the decorated stage, and the meticulous planning made it a high-class affair that felt truly special. Every contestant - win or lose - gave a courageous performance, representing their classes with pride. It was fantastic to see parents, teachers, and students cheering together, united by a shared sense of pride in these young people stepping up to a leadership challenge.
Adding true substance to the evening were our incredible guest speakers, Gantane Kusch and Jeanne-Danae Januarie. They didn’t just give speeches, they delivered a burst of inspiration. Everyone, including me, walked away feeling completely galvanised by their message; a powerful reminder that we all have the potential to lead and make an impact.
The lessons they shared will likely resonate long after the spotlights fade.
