A rollercoaster of growth and lessons
The journey of being in university of filled with high highs and incredibly low lows, but nonetheless, it's a journey I would not trade for the world.
Being a records and archives management student has been blissful and simultaneously intricate. When I first got admitted to the University of Namibia, I was overjoyed, but quickly came to the realisation that it was not as pretty as I imagined it to be. The amount of tears surpassed all the times I’ve ever smiled and, truly, no amount of pep talks could have prepared me for the rollercoaster ride I encountered at varsity.
The university has shaped and sculpted me into who I am today. My emotional, psychological and social well-being has been tested and my biggest challenge has been dealing with academics while facing hurdles in my personal life. But on the bright side, I am thankful for the friends I have gained along the way and the memories I will always cherish and hold dear to my heart. I am eternally grateful for the way my university experience has helped me grow, and not to mention the character development that came along with it. To say that I am proud of the person I have become would be an understatement.
I encourage aspiring students to revel in the cheerfulness of university. It’s not all unpleasant. But you will probably have dreadful moments, and when that occurs, keep your head above the water. Remember to focus on the goal, not the obstacle. Please be kind to yourself and the people around you. And as corny as it may sound, you truly can do whatever you put your mind to.
I hope for the most pleasant, colourful and prosperous varsity experience for you. And when it feels like you’ve reached rock bottom, know that you will persevere just like the class of 2022.
