Zambezi governor Dorothy Kabula, the first woman to lead the region, officially opened the 8th Annual Zambezi Bream and Cultural Expo in Katima Mulilo on Wednesday with a passionate call to strengthen partnerships that drive economic growth.
Kabula said the festival is more than a celebration, saying it’s a reflection of the region’s identity and values.
“We are here to honour the Zambezi bream, a fish that connects our culture, our economy, and our way of life,” she said.
Rooted in the heartbeat of the Zambezi River, the event showcases music, dance, food and enterprise, serving as a bridge between tradition and development.
Kabula praised the Katima Mulilo Town Council and stakeholders for sustaining the growing tradition and urged continued support from businesses and development partners.
“This festival must not only bring joy but also create meaningful opportunities, especially for youth, women and small businesses,” she said.
She challenged the region to unite behind local economies and turn the expo into a national force for change.
“Let us grow this platform, year after year, and proudly share the Zambezi story with the world,” she concluded.
