Young soloists shine at RMB Concerto Festival

The National Theatre of Namibia was filled with rapturous applause this weekend as the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra (NNSO) hosted the much-anticipated RMB Concerto Festival 2025, a two-day musical celebration that spotlighted some of Namibia’s brightest young soloists.Held on Saturday, 2 August and Sunday, 3 August, the annual festival has become a cornerstone of Namibia’s classical music calendar, offering a rare and invaluable platform for emerging talent to perform alongside a full symphony orchestra.This year’s edition was no exception, delivering an uplifting and virtuosic display of talent, discipline and musicality.Under the baton of returning conductor Xavier Cloete, the NNSO guided audiences through an inspired programme that showcased six soloists, aged between 8 and 15, performing challenging works by some of classical music’s most revered composers.With poised confidence, the young performers commanded the stage on violin, flute, cello and piano, receiving enthusiastic ovations from captivated audiences.The festival opened with Schubert’s Overture in the Italian Style, setting a bright and spirited tone.More than just a concert, the RMB Concerto Festival is a cultural investment, one that affirms Namibia’s commitment to nurturing its next generation of musicians.
