Rössing Foundation eyes lasting impact

The Rössing Foundation used the 2026 Namibia Mining Expo to showcase its community development work and highlight the role of partnerships in delivering sustainable impact across Namibia.Under the theme "Partner with us to Build Something That Lasts," the Foundation demonstrated how collaboration between businesses, institutions and communities can support education, skills development, innovation and community empowerment.During the three-day expo, Foundation representatives engaged with government officials, industry leaders, educational institutions, development partners and members of the public. Discussions focused on collaboration, while live podcast sessions explored education, innovation, support for small-scale miners and community development.The Foundation also hosted a media appreciation evening to recognise the role of the media in reporting on community development and social impact across Namibia.Rössing Foundation chief executive Chris Movirongo said the expo remained an important platform for bringing together stakeholders committed to Namibia's development."We want to create stories and initiatives together that demonstrate how resources can be used to address community needs and create meaningful impact. We take whatever resources and support are provided and use them to try and solve some of the community issues and problems. Our role is to facilitate between those who want to give to communities and those communities that need support," he said.Rössing Foundation board member and Rössing Uranium general manager for human capital, safety and sustainability Liezl Davies said the Foundation was being repositioned for the future."Rössing Foundation will also be 50 years old in two years, while Rössing Uranium Mine celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As part of this celebration, we have invested in revitalising and rebranding the Rössing Foundation because we are looking towards the next 50 years."While the mine's resources are finite, the Foundation is the legacy we want to leave behind. When the inevitable happens and the mine's resources run out, the Foundation must continue making an impact in communities. We need to constantly refresh, align ourselves with the national agenda and community needs, and work together through partnerships. We want to build partnerships and encourage mines, contractors and suppliers to work together to create a greater impact in our communities," she said.Rössing Foundation public relations executive Laina Hakweenda thanked the media for supporting the Foundation's work."Over the years that media houses have helped drive important conversations around education, communities and development work across Namibia. We simply wanted to pause and say thank you. The media has been an important partner in helping us share stories of impact, amplify community voices, and create awareness around the work being done to improve lives across the country," she said.The Foundation said the expo also provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and build new partnerships with government, industry, educational institutions and development organisations to expand opportunities for communities across Namibia.
