Paratus adds LEO to Namibia network

Paratus Namibia has launched Eutelsat’s OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity service in Namibia, expanding high-speed satellite internet access to residential and business customers. The service is intended to extend connectivity to areas where terrestrial networks are limited or unavailable, while also offering businesses an additional option for network backup and redundancy.Paratus Namibia managing director Andrew Hall said the company’s experience deploying LEO services elsewhere in Africa would support the rollout in Namibia.“We are bringing more than just another satellite connectivity option to Namibia,” Hall said.He said customers would have access to capped and uncapped packages, with the company’s customer management platform allowing users to monitor and manage data usage. For businesses, the service could provide a secondary connection to support continuity when a primary fixed-line connection is disrupted.Philippe Baudrier, Eutelsat’s vice-president for Africa, said the OneWeb network was designed to provide connectivity in locations beyond terrestrial coverage and strengthen the resilience of existing networks. The Namibian launch follows a multi-year agreement signed between Paratus and Eutelsat in November 2025 to expand OneWeb LEO services in Southern Africa. The rollout comes as satellite connectivity becomes an increasingly important part of efforts to extend broadband access to remote and underserved areas.
