Oil sector report unveiled

Namibia Oil and Gas has launched the fourth edition of its Bi-Annual Industry Report, outlining developments in the country's oil and gas sector during the first six months of 2026.

The report was unveiled by Namibia Oil and Gas co-founder Cobus Theyse during the opening of the Youth in Oil & Gas Summit, held in Walvis Bay from 23 to 25 July.

It covers exploration activity, investment trends, policy developments, local content initiatives and emerging opportunities across Namibia's energy value chain during the period from January to June.

Speaking at the launch, Theyse said access to reliable industry data was critical for informed decision-making and greater local participation.

"Access to reliable data is essential for informed decision-making, local participation, and long-term sector development," he said.

He encouraged industry stakeholders and delegates attending the summit to use the report as a reference on developments in Namibia's emerging oil and gas industry.

Youth in Oil & Gas Summit founder Justina Erastus said access to information was important if young Namibians were to participate meaningfully in the country's growing energy sector.

"It is important that young Namibians have access to information and platforms that enable them to participate meaningfully in the country's emerging energy sector," she said.

The launch also echoed President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's message at the summit, in which she called for the country to convert resource discoveries into economic opportunities.

"Let us move from discovery to development, from potential to implementation, and from aspiration to real opportunity for the Namibian people," the President said.

According to Namibia Oil and Gas, the publication was produced with support from Galp, Welwitschia Services Group and the Electricity Control Board of Namibia.

Galp said supporting the report reflected its commitment to the development of Namibia's oil and gas industry and the availability of accurate and current industry information.

"We believe this new chapter in the Namibian oil and gas sector will be a game changer for our nation and its people. Supporting a report such as this demonstrates Galp's commitment to the sector. It also acknowledges the need for accurate and up-to-date data, and that is what the Bi-Annual Industry Report provides," the company said.
