New hub boosts anti-poaching at Mangetti

A new monitoring hub has been delivered to Mangetti National Park, giving the Ministry of Environment and Tourism a dedicated facility to strengthen coordination of anti-poaching and conservation efforts.Built from a repurposed shipping container, the facility has been transformed into a practical operational space for frontline conservation teams working in the park. The hub is designed to improve communication, strengthen surveillance coordination and enable teams to respond more quickly to developments in the field.According to WWF Namibia, the facility provides ministry personnel with a central point from which to monitor activities and coordinate conservation operations, helping teams respond more efficiently to emerging threats and challenges.Situated in north-eastern Namibia, Mangetti National Park forms part of the country’s protected-area network and provides a refuge for a range of wildlife species. Strengthening monitoring and anti-poaching capabilities is essential to protecting these natural assets and improving the effectiveness of protected-area management.WWF Namibia said the new hub represents a targeted investment in conservation infrastructure, providing practical support to staff working on the frontline.By improving access to communication and coordination facilities, the hub is expected to strengthen surveillance, operational planning and the day-to-day management of conservation activities within the park.The initiative also supports WWF Namibia’s broader focus on strengthening protected-area management and anti-poaching capacity. Improved infrastructure and operational support are vital to safeguarding Namibia’s wildlife and ensuring that its protected areas can be effectively managed for generations to come.The project also highlights how repurposed infrastructure can provide practical, cost-effective solutions for conservation teams operating in remote areas.More importantly, it demonstrates the value of partnerships and targeted investment in giving those on the frontline the tools and support they need to protect Namibia’s wildlife – and the landscapes on which both people and nature depend.
