Trade between the United Kingdom and Namibia has surged, reaching over £200 million last year, with significant UK investments driving job creation and export growth.

At a recent workshop hosted by the British High Commission, the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), and the ministry of mines, industries and trade, policymakers and stakeholders gathered to unlock the full potential of the UK-SACU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

Speaking on the potential gains for increased opportunity, UK department of trade official Natasha Stotesbury said trade between Namibia and the UK has steadily risen since 2019 and urged Namibian businesses to take advantage for their products to enter that market tariff free.

"The essence of today is discussing the key policy makers, key stakeholders, yourselves involved in implementation of the economic partnership agreement here in Namibia, how we can ensure that utilisation is increased and the wider benefits of the agreement are realised by businesses in order to create jobs here in Namibia, greater value added in the exports to bring back more revenues, more growth for Namibia and deepen the UK-Namibia trading partnership," Stotesbury said.

According to her, trade between Namibia and the UK grew fundamentally since the Covid-19 era.

"We have been really pleased to see that since Covid-19 and under the stewardship of our previous High Commissioner, Charles Moore, we've seen our trade balance double, in fact, even triple, I believe, since 2019, and last year, our total trade was worth over £200 million pounds," Stotesbury said.

The increase in trade was further cemented by investments UK-based companies had made in Namibia.

We have also been really pleased to see some significant UK investments in Namibia, including US$20 million by Solar Century Africa recently in a renewable energy facility, as well as Appia Capital Advisory acquiring a mine in southern Namibia, the Zinc Mine," she said.

Namibia’s trade with the United Kingdom (UK) has tripled from N$3 billion in 2021 to N$9 billion in 2025, particularly in agriculture and machinery, Moore said during his last diplomatic meeting with Namibian President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
