Namibia launches first-ever greencycle expo
A first
Namibia hosted the Namibia ReThink Waste GreenCycle Expo 2025, a landmark national initiative to transform waste into economic opportunity and accelerate the country’s transition to a circular economy.
Running from 13-14 November 2025 at the Wanderers Sport Club, Windhoek, the inaugural event positioned Namibia as an emerging leader in sustainable innovation, moving beyond mere waste management to close critical sustainability gaps.
The Expo tackled a critical national paradox: while Namibia is ranked among the top 10 cleanest countries in Africa, it suffers from a hidden economic drain where valuable recyclable materials are buried in landfills or sent abroad annually. This event was a direct response, aiming to transform this overlooked waste into “circular capital” by addressing regulatory gaps and unlocking green investment, thereby shifting the national mindset from "take-make-dispose" to one where waste is a valuable resource.
A strategic platform for national development
The Expo brought together over 200 high-level attendees, including policymakers, investors, private sector leaders, and international partners, alongside 30+ innovative
exhibitors and key industry expert speakers.
A key highlight of the event was the prominent feature of youth-led initiatives that are pioneering practical, scalable recycling and upcycling solutions across the country. By supporting these young entrepreneurs, the Expo actively contributed to green job creation and skills development among Namibia’s most dynamic demographic demonstrating that local innovation is central to solving national challenges and creating future-ready jobs.
High-level objectives of the Expo
The Expo is committed to:
Accelerating the circular economy by making circular principles actionable for business and government.
Fostering innovation and investment in recycling, waste-to-energy, and sustainable materials.
Empowering youth and creating jobs through entrepreneurship and skills development in the green sector.
Informing national policy by facilitating essential dialogue between government, industry, and civil society to harmonise national waste management policies and develop robust infrastructure for resource recovery across Namibia.
Raising national awareness about the impact of improper waste disposal and inspiring widespread community participation in responsible consumption and recycling habits.
The Namibia ReThink Waste GreenCycle Expo 2025 is a collaborative effort between Creations Industrial Design and Aligned Sustainability and Environmental Consultants (ASEC), strategically endorsed by the ministry of international relations and trade (MIRT), the ministry of environment, forestry and tourism (MEFT) and supported by a consortium of government bodies and private partners
