MTC backs Bloomberg Lab

MTC has invested N$1.6 million in the establishment of a Bloomberg Finance Lab in Windhoek, providing Namibian learners with access to financial market data and analytical tools used by universities and financial institutions worldwide.The facility was officially launched on Tuesday at the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS) building in Windhoek through the Bloomberg Finance Lab Schools Initiative.MTC's funding enabled the installation of 12 Bloomberg terminals, giving learners access to Bloomberg's financial data, analytics and educational resources. The project was established through a partnership between Bloomberg's philanthropic programme and MTC.Speaking at the launch, MTC's chief brand, marketing, communications and sustainability officer, Tim Ekandjo, said the investment was aimed at expanding educational opportunities for young Namibians."We did not invest in this Lab as a marketing exercise. We invested because we believe Namibian youth deserve access to the same world-class tools and opportunities available anywhere in the world. By bringing these resources closer to home, we are helping learners broaden their horizons and build confidence in what they can achieve."Ekandjo said exposing learners to global financial markets and investment principles could help prepare them for careers in finance, technology, entrepreneurship and business."We believe that exposure to global financial systems and investment literacy at an early stage can play a critical role in preparing learners for future careers in finance, technology, entrepreneurship, and business leadership."MTC also announced that participants in its internship programme will be given access to the Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals Certification, allowing them to continue developing financial literacy and analytical skills as they enter the workplace.The company said the investment forms part of its broader efforts to support education, innovation and skills development among Namibia's youth.
