ICT focus sharpens as oil sector grows

Green Enterprise Solutions has expanded the role of ICT industry veteran Ilana Erasmus as the company positions itself to support Namibia's emerging oil and gas sector.The move comes as international oil companies and their Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers prepare for anticipated final investment decisions in the Orange Basin, where a series of major offshore discoveries has placed Namibia among the world's closely watched energy frontiers.Green said Erasmus would lead its efforts to develop and deliver turnkey, "plug-and-play" ICT infrastructure for energy companies establishing operations in Namibia.The recent Namibia Oil and Gas Conference also highlighted the need for Namibian companies to develop strategies to partner with international organisations entering the market and provide services to the growing oil and gas industry.Building digital infrastructure for arriving operatorsWith more than two decades of experience in the ICT sector, Erasmus has served as Green's Sales Manager since 2015.The company said her technical knowledge and analytical approach would help it respond to the complex operational requirements of global energy companies.Under her leadership, Green aims to position itself as a local operational bridge for international operators, helping companies establish their Namibian operations while maintaining connections with their overseas headquarters."Modern oil and gas operations are entirely intertwined with technology, from seismic data analytics to industrial control systems," said Green managing director Kehad Snydewel."When global enterprises land on Namibian soil, they cannot afford months of delay building digital ecosystems from scratch."Ilana's extensive background makes her the ideal leader to ensure our clients receive secure, scalable and fully compliant digital foundations from day one."Green said its approach would focus on enabling international operators to establish technology infrastructure quickly as they move from exploration activities towards potential development and production.Focus on local content and complianceGreen, a 100% Namibian-owned company founded in 2010, said it could provide international operators with a local content partner as companies expand their presence in the country.Its proposed services include turnkey connectivity linking Namibian operations with regional and global headquarters, supported by round-the-clock local technical assistance.The company also plans to provide cybersecurity and data protection services aimed at identifying, containing and responding to potential threats to energy infrastructure.Other areas of focus include cloud integration, server capacity and security systems that can be expanded as projects move from exploration to full-scale production.Green said its local knowledge and in-country expertise would also support technology adoption and training in the Namibian operating environment."I am excited to take on this role at such a transformative moment for Namibia," Erasmus said."By bringing world-class, localised digital infrastructure to arriving operators, we not only ensure seamless continuity for our partners but also build sustainable digital capacity within Namibia."
