Blended Voices hits a high note with sold-out choir showdown

The Blended Voices Choral Competition returned to the stage for its second edition over the weekend, drawing a sold-out crowd as nine choirs competed for top honours and cash prizes of N$100 000, N$50 000 and N$30 000.Taking third place was Ongwediva Youth Choir, while the Atlantic Vocal Ensemble secured second runner-up.Top honours went to Namib Camerata, who were crowned winners of the 2026 Blended Voices Choral Competition, walking away with the floating trophy and N$100 000.The competition was presented by the National Theatre of Namibia in partnership with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, with support from the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre, the National Art Gallery of Namibia, St George’s School, and Namibia Dairies.Nine choirs from across the country took part in the mesmerising competition.They were the three winning choirs in addition to the Lüderitz Youth Choir, the Sion Youth Choir from Otjiwarongo, the Opuwo Youth Choir, the Opuwo Golden Voices Youth Choir, the /Ae//gams Vocal Ensemble from Windhoek and the Walvis Bay Ensemble.Judges evaluated each choir’s performance per song, scoring intonation, diction, choir etiquette, technique, accuracy and musicality.The choirs were selected through an audition process held in February, where more than 45 choirs took part.PHOTOS: RITA KAKELO / NTN
