Namibia set to exit FATF greylist

Staff Reporter

Namibia is poised to exit the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) "grey list" after successfully remediating the strategic deficiencies previously identified in its financial systems. The exit remains subject to a formal site visit by the Africa Joint Group, as announced by Bryan Eiseb, Director of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).

Namibia has now addressed all 13 strategic deficiencies well ahead of the original May 2026 deadline. Consequently, the FATF has recommended that the country undergo an on-site assessment by the Africa Joint Group to verify the implementation and sustainability of these reforms, Eiseb explained.

Namibia was originally grey-listed by the FATF in February 2024 after 13 strategic gaps were identified in its Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CFT) framework. The rapid remediation of these issues underscores the government's commitment to restoring the country's standing within the global financial system
