Trainees attending the Employability Improvement Programme (EIP) training kit handover yesterday in Rundu were urged to look beyond Kavango East and explore opportunities across Namibia to increase their employability.

"Trainees are encouraged to look beyond Kavango East and explore opportunities across Namibia. Expanding your horizons is key to increasing employability and building a versatile, successful career in the labor market."

During his vote of thanks, Munisola Gwala said trainees need to combine technical skills with soft skills to be versatile in the labor market. “You might know how to fix a car, but without soft skills, your business might fail. Combine your skills, collaborate with colleagues, and be dependable. This training equips you to survive and succeed in the labor market,” he said.

The handover ceremony, which concluded a tour that included stops in Okakarara and Wehnana, was held at Rundu Vocational Training Centre.

Kornelius Lukas (centre manager), Rie Shinozaki (speaking on behalf of the Japan International Cooperation Agency Resident Representative), and Noriaki Sadamoto (Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Japan) oversaw the official presentation of training kits designed to strengthen workplace-based learning.

Sadamoto highlighted the importance of human resource development and vocational training in Namibia, noting Japan’s role as a key developmental partner.

He said the project, launched in April 2018 as a bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Japan through JICA and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), aims to produce employable trainees and expand EIP training sustainably to vocational centres and industries.

Phase two of the project began in May 2024 and will continue until the end of 2025.

He further commended the progress made in locally producing EIP training equipment by NUST’s Mechanical Engineering Department, calling it “a milestone that strengthens the sustainable rollout of the programme nationally.”
