The Movie Guy at Comic Con

Career highlight
A look back at Comic Con Africa 2026 and the unforgettable interviews that made this year’s convention special.

Comic Con Africa 2026 ended more than two weeks ago, but I am still reliving every moment, because this year’s convention was different.

It was a struggle to get there.

There was a moment when I genuinely thought I wasn’t going to make it, but fortunately, I did. At the last minute, someone stepped in and made it possible for me to fly to Johannesburg and attend the event. I am forever grateful for all the love and support I received, as well as everyone who made it possible for me to be there.

It was the best Comic Con ever, but then again, I usually say that after every convention. I can, however, say that this one was the most unforgettable, because I was able to experience it from a completely different point of view. I think the fact that I was able to make it at the last minute made it even more special.

Last year, I had the opportunity to interview Misha Collins, who is known for his role as Castiel in Supernatural. It was a dream come true. It made me feel as if I were a TV presenter, and all that excitement reminded me of why I became a journalist. I wanted to share good stories with people while also getting the opportunity to speak to remarkable people.

New friends, new adventures

This year, I was able to interview six remarkable people. I met the fantastic Richard T. Jones, who is known for his role as Wade Grey in The Rookie. I also spoke to Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden and Spencer Grammer, the three main voice actors in Rick and Morty. Afterwards, I sat down with Christopher Judge for an interview. Most people know him as the voice of Kratos in the God of War video games.

I was also able to speak with the fantastic DJ Elliot, also known as Elliot Hansen. He is not only a presenter at Comic Con Africa and Comic Con Cape Town, but also hosts Star Wars conventions, helps organise them and is involved with Comic Con New York.

Ten years ago, I never would have imagined that one day I would be shaking hands and speaking with people I admire. I am still trying to understand how I managed to remain so calm while speaking to everyone. I was extremely nervous and I know I may have stumbled over some of my questions, but somehow, I managed to do it.

Dreams come true

Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. DJ Elliot and I connected over our love for Back to the Future, and it was the fastest I have ever made a new friend. Richard shared some interesting behind-the-scenes details about what people can expect from Season 9 of The Rookie. He also took the time to send a special greeting to my dad.

Christopher was incredibly accommodating and took a few minutes out of his lunch to meet me for an interview. During our conversation, he also gave a few hints about what people can expect from God of War: Laufey, which is coming out next year.

To some people, this may sound insignificant, but to me, all these interviews are highlights of my career. The more I think about all of this, the more blessed I feel. I can hardly believe that I am now someone who rubs shoulders with celebrities.

I am once again reminded that life may not always go the way we plan, but that we are still being guided in the direction we are meant to go.

All the interviews are available on my YouTube channel.
