A 17-year-old boy died by suicide last week at Onamutayi-Onanke village in the Omuntele constituency after he failed grade 11.

According to a police report, the teen was distraught after receiving his grade 11 examination results last Wednesday.

Oshikoto regional commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said Shatiwa Tuhafeni Nghifilenga was a learner at Olukolo Secondary School in the Oluno circuit.

“During the early hours of Thursday, the deceased was allegedly found hanging from the roof of his bedroom with a rope around his neck by his uncle,” she said.

Kalompo-Nashikaku added that the uncle managed to cut the rope. The teen was unconscious but still alive, and was rushed to Omuthiya State Hospital.

He was later transferred to Oshakati State Hospital for further treatment, where he died the same day.

She said no suicide note was left, and no foul play is suspected. The deceased’s body has been taken to the Oshakati police mortuary for an autopsy. Police investigations continue.
