SHORT NEWS: Austin Elindi has been hospitalised
State prosecutor Advocate Basson Lilungwe informed magistrate Jurina Hochobes yesterday that fraud-accused Austin Elindi was unable to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court for his scheduled bail application after he was admitted to Lady Pohamba Private Hospital.
Elindi, together with co-accused Cornelius Cedric Willemse and Panduleni Hamukwaya — the husband of former Namcor finance executive Jennifer Hamukwaya — is due back in court on 25 August.
Elindi’s lawyer, Karel Gaeb, said he received a sick note early morning yesterday but had no further details regarding his client’s medical condition. While uncertain whether Elindi’s bail application will proceed, he noted that this should not prevent Willemse and the other accused from continuing with theirs on 25 August. Bruno Boris Isaacks represents Willemse.
Hamukwaya was also absent from today’s proceedings. Lilungwe said he has not received any communication from Hamukwaya’s legal representatives on how they intend to proceed with his bail application.
