Rapist wears school uniform to lure girl
• Police concerned
Learners in the Oshana Region have been urged to walk home from school in groups, and to avoid speaking to strangers.
Police in the Oshana Region have expressed concern about an incident involving an unknown man who donned a school uniform to lure a girl away to rape her.
Oshana community affairs officer, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, described the incident as “very disturbing” and said they need the community to work with the police to avoid further incidents of this nature.
“We want parents, teachers and the community to talk to the children not to speak to strangers when they are coming from school. The learners should also be encouraged to walk in groups,” he said.
Aiyambo said a 10-year-old girl, who is a grade four learner, was raped at Ongwediva last week while she was on her way home from school.
The incident happened in a house behind Oshana Mall.
“The suspect - who was also wearing school uniform, but from a different school - approached the victim from behind and promised to escort her home on condition that she accompany him to his residence first. The victim accepted the offer, but upon arrival at the suspect's residence, she was forcefully pulled into a room and raped.”
The incident was reported to the police by the victim's mother. The suspect has yet to be arrested. Police investigations continue.
