Rani invests at Okahao

Traders at the Okahao open market will no longer miss a day of work during the rainy season after the Rani Group of Companies on Friday announced that it will construct a N$1 million open market.
The market will be built in two phases. In the first phase a total of 86 stalls are expected to be constructed at a cost of N$600 000, while during phase two, 70 stalls will be constructed at a cost of N$400 000. Ali Dharani of Rani Group said they are not going to charge any fees for building the open market, but will donate it to the council for the benefit of the community. Dharani made the remarks during the official groundbreaking ceremony at Okahao on Friday. “This is your omatala [open market]. If you see a need to render your assistance during the construction process, then do so. If you are unable to do any labour, you can offer prayers for the safety of the contractor,” he said.
For the rainy season
Dharani said they decided to invest in the project for those who sell during the rainy season, resulting in their goods going to waste if soaked and damaged by the rain.
“A well-developed open market will be the solution that they need. We need to protect our mothers. Once a woman is protected, then the whole family is well taken care of,” he said. Dharani added that once the market is in full operation, he will boost the first 86 vendors with starter packs goods for selling.
The town’s mayor, Cornelia Iiyambula, said the importance of open market cannot be overemphasised in Okahao, hence it will always be the responsibility of town council to ensure that their informal traders, particularly the street vendors, have a marketplace for their products.
“As a council we are faced with various challenges to deliver these facilities for our people and the investment by Rani will go a long way to serve the people,” she said.
The open market will be constructed by The 6000 Investment, a company owned by Mario Upite, and completion is set for 31 July 2022. Iiyambula said Rani also offered to donate N$50 000 for the next three years to benefit the community of Okahao. She called on local businesses to emulate the trend set by Rani Group and help grow their community.
