Pump failure triggers water rationing in northern regions
NEWS IN SHORT
Water supply to parts of northern Namibia will be rationed nightly following a pump failure at Calueque, NamWater announced Monday.
NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said the malfunction disrupted water flow to the Ogongo and Oshakati water treatment plants, affecting supply to the Oshana, Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions. Although the technical fault was fixed late Sunday, 27 July, full water restoration is expected only by Thursday, 31 July.
To manage the limited supply, nightly water rationing will be implemented from 28 July to 16 August between 22:00 and 04:00.
Ndamanomhata advised essential service providers, such as hospitals, clinics, schools, and police stations, to report urgent water needs to the following NamWater representatives: Tommy Sheelongo (operations manager, Oshana/Ohangwena/Oshikoto) at 081 272 7945, Raphaei Endjala (superintendent, Oshana & Ohangwena) at 081 124 5597 and Nico Ndemwiimba (superintendent, Oshana & Oshikoto) at 081 145 5267.
