Debmarine Desert Jewels’ head coach Mary Waya says the team needs to start preparing now for the 2027 Netball World Cup.
Waya who led the team at the just ended Netball Africa World Cup qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa said that lessons were learned and that the next step is for early preparation, giving the players more game time.
We need to focus on our training moving onwards. Next is the Africa Championships in Kambala, Uganda. We need to start now to prepare for 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia. The players need game time.
“We need to do a lot so that when we go to the next qualifiers, we are ready. We need to have a local netball series and to also play more games against neighboring countries to expose the players and to give them a lot of game time,” said Waya.
The national team needs to focus and prepare mentally and physically. They need to have their own language during game time, so the other team doesn’t understand when they communicate on court.
Also, we need to be very determined and focused. We need to play to our strengths and focus on our goals. At the Netball qualifiers, each team came prepared and with their game plan. You saw how we were defeated, most matches were close. Now we need to work on bettering that,” she concluded.
