This year’s Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) will feature a newly inaugurated police satellite office inside the fairgrounds, aimed at tightening security during the much-anticipated event, which kicks off today and runs until 30 August.
To enhance visitors’ safety, the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair Society, in partnership with the Oshana Police, this week unveiled a prefabricated police satellite charge office within the trade fair centre.
OATF society chairperson Rebekka Hidulika said during a press briefing that the facility will serve as a mini police station, ensuring the protection of visitors, vendors and exhibitors.
Hidulika added that it will also enable swift responses to emergencies and strengthen law and order on the grounds.
She said the move reflects a collaborative effort between OATF and the Oshana police to prioritise public safety.
With thousands of people expected from across Namibia and neighbouring countries, the station is positioned to help the event run smoothly.
Preparations for the fair are ongoing, with organisers confident of delivering a vibrant and secure showcase of business, culture and community resilience.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to officially launch the event on Sunday.
The trade fair is being hosted under the theme ‘Innovate, Connect and Prosper’.
