Patrick Sikiliza back in the spotlight
• Sikiliza drops ‘Ngeno’ visuals
Namibian singer-songwriter Patrick Sikiliza is breathing new life into his sophomore album ‘Smile’ with the release of a music video for ‘Ngeno’, the eighth track on the 16-track project.
The visually rich video, shot by Cine1 Production, marks the first official music video lifted from the album since its release in September 2024.
In an exclusive interview with tjil, Sikiliza expressed excitement over the reception the video has garnered. “The feedback has been humbling,” he said. “The video has surpassed 30 000 views on YouTube in just its first week, which shows me that people are connecting with the song in a real way.”
‘Ngeno’, a love ballad layered with Afro-fusion instrumentation and heartfelt lyricism, is a standout on ‘Smile’, which features collaborations with prominent Namibian artists including Sunny Boy, Dee’A, Samuel Shines, Carry K, Linda and Philip.
The album is available across digital platforms as well as in physical formats such as CD and USB – an increasingly rare offering in today’s streaming-first industry.
Sikiliza admitted that upon the album’s release last year, he did not push it as strongly as he had hoped, citing family responsibilities that took precedence. “When ‘Smile’ dropped, my attention was split. I couldn’t give it the energy it deserved. But now, I’m committed to making sure the music reaches the people,” he said.
Quality over quantity
The decision to lead the album’s visual rollout with ‘Ngeno’ appears to have been a strategic one, based on both audience response and the song’s emotive weight. With renewed momentum, Sikiliza revealed that the next video he plans to release will be for the album’s title track, 'Smile'.
“I want to take my time and be intentional with how I push this project,” he explained. “There’s no rush for a new album this year. My focus is still on 'Smile'.”
The music video for ‘Ngeno’ is minimal yet evocative, capturing the song’s themes of longing and vulnerability through soft lighting, intimate framing and natural landscapes. The music video cast are his family, adding a personal touch to the visuals. It’s a visual effort that complements the sonic palette of the track – and one that signals Sikiliza’s sharpened focus on quality over quantity in this chapter of his music career.
As ‘Smile’ gets a second wind through thoughtful visuals and renewed promotion, Sikiliza seems poised to reassert his voice in the Namibian music landscape – on his own terms and on his own timeline.
