Criminals and unruly motorists in the Oshana region are set to face the full force of the law this festive season, with police significantly ramping up their presence to ensure a safe holiday for residents and visitors.Oshana police commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, issued the warning last Friday during the commissioning of the new Eheke C-Class Police Station and the launch of intensified 2025/2026 festive-season operations.
He said crime would be curbed through increased manpower, improved mobility and upgraded technology, ensuring greater safety for the community.
“The launch signifies a new policing era, one defined by efficiency, visibility, accountability and community partnership,” the regional police chief said.
“The purpose of the operation is simple: to safeguard the lives and property of all residents and visitors in our region so they may enjoy the festive season peacefully and responsibly,” Sakaria added.
Force boosted
To ensure immediate effectiveness and overwhelm criminal opportunities, the region has increased its capacity with 145 additional police officers drawn from various divisions and deployed to support the festive operation.
Sakaria added that the regional fleet has been strengthened with seven brand-new vehicles aimed at enhancing patrols, rapid response and visibility.
Sakaria also spoke on roadblocks and interception, saying the strategy focuses on high-visibility checkpoints designed to detect and deter unlawful activity.
“A major temporary roadblock will be erected at Oneshoko, targeting the highly congested Ondangwa-Oshikango B1 road,” he said.
“Roadblocks will serve to conduct random stop-and-search operations on both vehicles and individuals.”
Sakaria said the roadblocks are designed for detecting and preventing crimes related to smuggling, drugs, traffic violations and other unlawful activities.
