Ongwediva council warns against illegal dumping
The Ongwediva Town Council has expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of illegal dumping of domestic and garden waste in undesignated areas, urging residents to cease this practice immediately.
Council spokesperson Ottilie Shingenge called on residents to utilize skip bins provided by the municipality instead of dumping waste indiscriminately.
Shingenge highlighted specific streets and neighborhoods most affected by illegal dumping, including Ongwe, Buffalo, Lion, Kudu, Elikam Namundjebo, and Kaxumba Kandola streets, as well as the western side of Extension 14.
Additionally, Namibian Sun has identified illegal dumping sites along Omatando Street in Hannover, Ongwediva.
“As residents, you are charged for domestic and gardening waste disposal. Therefore, the current practice is not only illegal but also tarnishes the good image of our town,” Shingenge said, emphasizing that the council strongly discourages such activities.
Waste Bins Available
Residents without proper waste storage bins are encouraged to purchase them from the council office at a cost of N$295 per bin or acquire them from local shops.
The council is committed to maintaining the cleanliness of Ongwediva and urges community members to play their part in keeping the town free from illegal dumping.
