The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) and the Ondangwa Town Council on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to upgrade the town's informal settlements as part of a nationwide low-cost housing initiative.

During the handover, Ondangwa Town Council CEO Ismael Namgongo applauded NHE for collaborating on the informal settlement upgrading programme, an initiative aimed at improving living conditions for residents in informal settlements.

Namgongo said the engagement between the two parties follows a fruitful meeting held on 2 June, where discussions centred around the possibility of implementing the low-cost housing programme in Ondangwa.

Task is clear

“We have discussed the housing needs and we agreed that the two institutions are both responsible for providing housing for people and hence we came together to tackle the housing needs in our country,” he said.

NHE board chairperson Toska Sem said the task is clear and that NHE is ready to deliver.

Sem said the NHE is currently rolling out this initiative across the country in a bid to address housing challenges faced by many Namibians.

“We are pleased that Ondangwa council is interested in collaborating with us on the informal settlement programme and exploring the possibility of having our low-cost housing initiative implemented in your town,” she said.
