OATF beefs up security
160 guards hired ahead of popular event
Slated for 25 August to 2 September, the trade fair will take place under the theme 'embracing a sustainable economy, linking smart markets'.
The Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) society committee yesterday revealed that a total of 160 security guards have been hired to ensure the safety of exhibitors and visitors during trading hours.
Ongwediva spokesperson Jackson Muma said the local companies contracted are Nebby Security Services, Triple One Investment CC, Namibia Protection Services and Shikuvule Trading Service CC.
The OATF is slated for 25 August to 2 September, and will take place under the theme ‘embracing a sustainable economy, linking smart markets’.
Muma said 80 guards will be on duty per shift and will be deployed for the entire duration of the trade fair.
“We want to provide the exhibitors and visitors a memorable stay in the town during the trade fair. They should feel safe to do business and customers should not be in fear of being robbed while on the trade fair grounds,” he said.
This year, over 400 exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services.
No stone unturned
Police in the Oshana Region said while they are already hard at work to protect citizens of the region, they too will beef up security as Ongwediva and the surrounds will experience an influx of people during the OATF.
Deputy commissioner Nico Steenkamp said additional members will be taken from administrative offices to supplement operational groups.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of our residents. We are calling upon all residents to work with the police and to report any suspicious activities in order to ensure peaceful trading for the exhibitors and visitors.”
