Newly appointed Oshana regional governor Hofni Iipinge has called on all stakeholders to work together to accelerate socio-economic development and ensure no resident is left behind in the region.

Speaking at his first official meet-and-greet with stakeholders at the Oshana council chamber on Wednesday, Iipinge emphasised the need for unity, accountability and ethical leadership as he begins his tenure.

The event brought together government officials, traditional authorities, local councillors, business leaders and civil society representatives.

“I stand before you with a deep sense of honour and duty as the new governor of this proud and dynamic region,” Iipinge said.

He expressed gratitude to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for entrusting him with the leadership role and commended his predecessor, Elia Irimari, for steering Oshana through some of its most challenging moments, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

Iipinge said his administration will focus on aligning regional development programmes with national priorities, particularly Swapo's 2024 election manifesto and the soon-to-be-launched National Development Plan Six.

The manifesto’s theme, ‘Unity in diversity, natural resources beneficiation and youth empowerment for sustainable development', will serve as a guiding blueprint for his work, he said.

“The people of Oshana deserve a top-notch public service that is honest, responsive and inclusive,” the governor said, stressing the importance of teamwork and effective communication across all sectors.

A new chapter

Iipinge urged stakeholders to play an active role in transforming the region by investing in people, improving infrastructure, creating jobs, growing the economy and protecting vulnerable communities.

He said his office remains open to all, with a commitment to fostering a culture of consultation, collaboration and respect.

“The success of this region will not only be measured by the projects we complete but by the trust we build and the unity we maintain,” he said.

He called on all leaders, citizens and institutions to join him in building what he termed a prosperous, peaceful and inclusive Oshana, adding that progress would only be achieved through collective effort, transparency and hard work.

“I look forward to working with each one of you as we write a new chapter of real progress for Oshana,” Iipinge said.
