NCS says no to tattoos
The Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) will in future not recruit persons with visible tattoos on their bodies.
The decision comes amid concerns that some correctional officers bear tattoos associated with gangs.
Making the order, NSC Commissioner-General Raphael Hamunyela said visible tattoos were not a good reflection of the service.
"The NCS shall not recruit persons with visible tattoos on their bodies, hence the need to amend the recruitment policy and the code of conduct to ensure that in future no person with visible tattoos is recruited in the NCS. New tattoos constitute a disciplinary offence," Hamunyela wrote.
The names of correctional officers bearing tattoos would subsequently also be taken for record-keeping.
