President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President Lucia Witbooi, and Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare this week inspected two newly acquired Shaanxi Y-9E aircraft procured from China in November last year.

Speaking at Hosea Kutako International Airport, air vice marshal Teofilus Shaende highlighted the strategic importance of the aircraft.

He said the Y-9Es will play a crucial role in transporting troops and military equipment and deploying humanitarian aid such as drought relief.

Namibia is the first country outside China to receive this specific aircraft model, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s military capabilities and diplomatic ties with Beijing.
