NamWater to ration northern areas
NamWater this week announced that some northern parts of the country will have water interruptions due to work currently being done at the canal.
This has affected the delivery of water to areas in the Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshana regions.
NamWater area manager for operations Abraham Ashipala said the current rehabilitation works on the canal will lead to water being slow to NamWater treatment plants and distribution systems.
He said to ensure the availability of water to critical stakeholders, they started with water rationing on 3 June and this will continue until 18 June.
The construction is set to build the reserve capacity of components and sustain the limited available water being produced. “We are reconstructing the canal to increase our capacity so that everybody receives water,” he said.
Ashipala added that should there be critical needs for essential services, hospitals and clinics are encouraged to call NamWater’s offices in the specific regions for possible delivery arrangements through water tanks.
