NamPost expands reach with 12 new branches

NamPost has opened 12 additional service points in the past 10 months, expanding its national footprint to 148 points as the postal operator strengthens its capacity to administer and distribute government social grants.NamPost officially took over the administration and cash distribution of government social grants on 1 October 2025, replacing previous private contractors. Since taking over the programme, the company has expanded its service network to bring grant services closer to beneficiaries, with more than 250 000 Namibians now receiving monthly support.NamPost CEO Willem Mouton said the 12 additional service points were established specifically to support the social cash grants programme and ensure beneficiaries have reliable and dignified access to their grants.Mouton was speaking during the inauguration of the new NamPost branch in Nkurenkuru, where he said the expansion was part of the company’s broader commitment to improving service delivery across the country.“Today, we are not simply opening another branch. We are improving our service delivery to the people of Nkurenkuru and the wider Kavango West region,” Mouton said.Wider reachThe expansion is further supported by NamPost’s mobile payment teams, which serve more than 1 100 payment points across the country every month.Mouton said NamPost’s growing footprint was intended to ensure that people, regardless of where they live, can access postal, financial, logistics and government services.However, the increased role in social grant distribution has also placed pressure on the company’s existing branches, with Mouton acknowledging a sharp increase in customer volumes since NamPost took over the programme.“Since NamPost started the cash-grant distribution last year, our branches have experienced a sharp increase in customer volumes,” he admitted.He said the increased traffic had made it difficult for existing customers to access other services, including airtime, data, electricity, water and PostPay money orders.Going onlineTo ease the pressure, NamPost has turned to digital services with the launch of its My NamPost Banking App.The application allows customers to purchase airtime and data bundles, pay electricity and water bills, and send digitised PostPay money orders without having to visit a branch.“These services are not introduced for technology’s sake, but to make everyday life easier for our customers,” Mouton said.He said NamPost was seeking to strike a balance between its physical branch network and digital services, which he described as essential to advancing financial inclusion.Mouton also announced the launch of NamPost’s corporate social responsibility programme, which includes equipment donations to community ICT centres in Nkurenkuru, Katjinakatji and other centres across the country.He said the initiative would strengthen digital and financial literacy while helping communities participate in an increasingly digital economy.Mouton further linked the initiative to NamPost’s plans to strengthen financial inclusion by migrating current cash-grant recipients to formal bank accounts.“We believe these centres will play an important role as we move to strengthen financial inclusion, starting with the migration of current cash grant recipients to formal bank accounts,” he said.He said NamPost regarded Kavango West as a region with enormous potential and was committed to supporting its development as both a service provider and national partner.
