Namdeb sponsors three solar geysers to Keetmans school

Namdeb Diamond Corporation has donated three solar geysers worth N$79 000 to Suiderlig Secondary School in Keetmanshoop.

The geysers will be installed as part of ongoing renovations at the school. The donation fulfils a pledge made by Namdeb at the school’s fundraising gala dinner last year to support the repair and upgrading of hostel facilities.

The initiative was spearheaded by deputy minister of mines Gaudentia Krohne, who approached Namdeb to secure support for the project.

“Namdeb, as a company, not only draws value from our land but also gives back in a meaningful way to the children of our nation,” she said.

||Kharas regional education director Nicolaas Eiman said: “By providing hot water to the hostel, you have done more than improve a facility; you have helped restore comfort and dignity for our learners.”

Namdeb CEO Riaan Burger said the company had a responsibility to contribute to education and community development.

“As an organisation, our role is to help address needs such as these. The value of mining does not end when extraction is complete. Mining is finite, and what matters is the legacy left behind. For us, that legacy is investing in Namibia and its people,” he said.

Education remains one of Namdeb’s key areas of investment. Previous initiatives include the electrification of Donkerbos Primary School in the Omaheke region.

Among its most significant contributions was the handover of a fully fledged high school to the education ministry, which the company says reflects its long-term commitment to education in Namibia.
