Mr Makoya brings Namibian love with ‘INam-INam’

Namibian artist Strauss Lunyangwe, who performs as Mr Makoya, has released his latest single, INam-INam, a track that celebrates love while drawing inspiration from Namibia’s cultural identity and diverse sounds.

Beyond music, Mr Makoya has developed experience in video production and journalism. He has released four solo albums and three group albums under his independent record label, TS Media.

According to the artist, INam-INam grew from his desire to work with producer Chris Wayne, whom he believed brought something fresh to the creative process. The collaboration eventually expanded when Wayne introduced him to DJ Hoppy, forming what Mr Makoya described as his dream production team.

“They always gave me something out of my comfort zone so that I could explore another creative side of myself, which I believe we executed pretty well, as we kept challenging each other, and that’s how everything started falling into place,” he said.

The title INam-INam means 'love' in Damara/Nama. Mr Makoya said the team wanted to celebrate a uniquely Namibian word while reflecting the country’s diverse cultural identities.

“We wanted to share the love with people out there who are hungry for authentic Namibian music. Also showing and staying true to our cultural identities,” he said.

The song is accompanied by a music video featuring various respected personalities and professionals, chosen to represent a message of love and the positive influence people can have in their respective sectors.

Mr Makoya credited the production team Mad Boy Genius for helping bring the visual story to life.

“They went out of their way to make sure the storytelling was perfect,” he said.

The single also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the artist, with his upcoming album TYCOON set for release in November. “The amount of teamwork we have put in, as well as the direction, has been amazing; hence, this will be the new sound of Mr Makoya and nothing other than my last offering,” he said.

He described the album as “a musical gift from us to you” and hopes listeners will embrace and appreciate the work behind it.
