A bar brawl in the early hours of Tuesday turned deadly when a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed at Hard Work Bar in Eepya location, Uupopo, Ondangwa.

Oshana Police crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila on Thursday said the incident occurred at around 01:30 when a fight erupted between the suspect and the deceased.

Witnesses told police they did not know what triggered the altercation, only that the two men exchanged punches before the deceased suddenly collapsed.

Ndjadila said eyewitnesses reported seeing blood gushing from the man’s neck, leading them to suspect that he had been stabbed.

“The police were notified and upon arrival of officials, they observed the victim unresponsive. He had sustained two stab wounds – one on the right side of his neck and another on his upper right torso,” he said.

The deceased, a 30-year-old resident of Uupopo, originally from Okanghundi in the Ohangwena region, was declared dead at the scene.

The body was transported to the police mortuary.

The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Eepya location, originally from Oonadhi village in Oshikoto region, has been arrested and is being held at the Ondangwa Police holding cells.

He is expected to appear in court on Friday.

The weapon allegedly used in the incident has not yet been recovered.
