Irimari’s six-year governorship attracts praise and gratitude
Former Oshana governor Elia Irimari was honoured at a farewell ceremony held in Oshakati on Friday, where regional leaders, traditional authorities, colleagues and community members paid tribute to what they termed his impactful leadership and legacy.
The event, which was also attended by current governor Hofni Iipinge, celebrated Irimari’s six-year tenure, described as one of resilience, development and community-focused governance.
Uukwiyuushona constituency councillor Andreas Amundjindi and Andreas Uutoni, chairperson of the Oshana regional council, praised Irimari for steering the region through crises such as the 2019 drought and the Covid-19 pandemic.
“He did not just lead from behind a desk – he was on the ground. Irimari served with humility, humanity, and an unwavering commitment to his people,” Uutoni said.
Acknowledging the role of family, he added: “We thank Meme Irimari and the entire family for their support. Behind every great leader is a family that shares the burden of service.”
One of Irimari’s most celebrated achievements was the excavation of earth dams in all 11 constituencies to promote agriculture and water security.
Amundjindi expressed deep appreciation to the former governor, noting that his leadership left a mark not just on policy but on people. “Your legacy remains embedded in the progress of this region,” he said.
Ongwediva mayor Taarah Shalyefu applauded Irimari for his leadership during his six-year term, saying he stood firm in putting the people in his region first before his own needs.
As Irimari steps into a new chapter, speakers emphasised that his influence will continue to shape Oshana’s future.
