Guard dies by suicide while on duty

A security guard stationed at the Ondangwa town council was discovered dead yesterday morning after having reportedly taken his own life while on duty.
The deceased has been identified as Israel Jesaya.
Oshana Region police spokesperson, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said the 31-year-old’s body was discovered at 06:40 by one of his colleagues.
It is alleged that the deceased shot himself with a pistol.
“He was [found in a seated position] wearing [his] uniform, with a pistol in his right hand... The deceased had two open wounds, an entrance wound in the middle of his forehead... and [an exit wound] at the back of [his] head,” he said.
The body has been handed over to the Oshakati police mortuary, and Jesaya’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue.
