Food parcels a start, Kalola says
News in short
On Monday, Samora Machel constituency councillor Nestor Kalola handed over 95 food parcels to vulnerable community members in that area.
The parcels, valued at N$20 000, were donated by the Khomas Regional Council.
According to Kalola, the food parcels are only the beginning of a bigger project to feed more people in the constituency.
"Of course, we want to do it more than one time and we thank the council for coming to us with such a generous donation,” he said.
“In 2011, the number of inhabitants we had in the informal settlements was over 51 000, and since then, we have counted at least 80 000 more shacks that have been put up. This is a small start, but it is something.”
The parcels included rice, tinned fish, maize meal, macaroni and soup packets.
