Flussh gifts waterless toilet to Rundu’s Tumweneni residents

Flussh, an organisation dedicated to providing innovative sanitation solutions, handed over a waterless eco-toilet last Tuesday in Tumweneni, one of Rundu's areas hardest hit by water scarcity.Crafted from locally sourced and recycled materials, the eco-toilet offers a sustainable solution to communities struggling with limited water access.Flussh's sales and marketing officer Agrapine Nankali said the initiative is part of the organisation’s mission to enhance sanitation access in underserved areas.“Since we are on a mission to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly toilets, we surveyed Tumweneni. The results revealed that 98% of the population does not have access to water due to severe scarcity. In response, we developed a completely waterless toilet,” Nankali said.“This facility demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and improving the well-being of those who currently lack proper sanitation,” she added.'Best solutions'Tumweneni resident Marcellious Haivera described the waterless toilet as a much-needed solution for the area, which lacks both traditional toilets and open bush spaces for relief.“This is one of the best solutions for our community. If you look around, there are no bushes, no toilets. This unique toilet will address many issues by providing a hygienic, waterless, and odourless option. Personally, I can testify to its benefits,” he said.Haivera called for the adoption of the innovation not just in Tumweneni but across the Rundu area. “This toilet is a special gift to the community. Due to water shortages and the high costs of conventional toilets, such facilities are often out of reach. This waterless toilet is a cost-effective alternative that will greatly benefit us all,” he said.Encouraging widespread use of the facility, Haivera highlighted its potential to bring lasting relief to the community. “I urge everyone to fully embrace and utilise this innovative solution for our collective benefit,” he added.nikanor@erongo.com.na
