Elephant spotted near Elim-Onaanda area
Omusati police regional commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, said residents in the Elim-Onaanda area have reported an elephant roaming in the area. Basson said that information received this morning indicates community members spotted the animal moving through the area, although it remains unclear whether it is one elephant or two. He said authorities have been notified, and officials from the nature conservation department have been informed of the situation. Basson urged residents to remain cautious, avoid approaching the animal and immediately report any sightings while officials assess the situation. Just last week, Klaudia Tamukondjo (46) from Omugulugombashe village at Tsandi in the Omusati region died after being trampled by an injured elephant when she got closer to it.
