Doctors accused of removing wrong kidney
DOCTORS ACCUSED OF REMOVING WRONG KIDNEY: A Katutura resident, Lucius Kondjeni, has issued a summons against the government, alleging that doctors at Windhoek Central Hospital mistakenly removed a healthy kidney during a procedure on 27 July. In court papers, Kondjeni’s lawyer, Norman Tjombe, said his client now requires dialysis three times a week for the rest of his life, as the remaining kidney has only 3% functionality. Kondjeni’s lawsuit alleges the doctors were negligent in failing to properly determine which kidney should be removed. He claims he was only informed on 3 August that the kidney removed was in fact the healthy one. He is suing the government for N$40 million.
