Court postpones Hengari ruling to today
NEWS IN SHORT
The Windhoek Magistrate’s Court will rule on whether disgraced former agriculture minister Mac Hengari and his co-accused should be released today.
Hengari was arrested for allegedly trying to bribe a woman who claims to be the mother of his child.
His co-accused, Simon Hango, the woman’s brother, had flown into the country from Germany on the day of the arrest on 26 April.
The court ruled that a decision will be made today after the parties’ legal representatives argued that the arrests were unlawful and executed through alleged police collusion with the alleged rape victim.
The ruling was initially scheduled for delivery in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday before magistrate Monica Andjaba. Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, who represents the second accused confirmed the postponement, describing it as “an erroneous judicial administrative error”.- Rita Kakelo
