Residents of Freedom Square in Gobabis, formerly known as Damara Block and Kanaal B, have raised concerns over delayed rubbish collection and a lack of basic services in the area. Namibian Sun observed heaps of uncollected rubbish in the community. Residents said some areas have gone for months without proper waste collection, while many households lack access to electricity and water. In Kanaal B, residents reportedly lack water and electricity and must walk to a community tap in Kanaal C to fetch water. Those with access to water taps often sell water to their neighbours, leaving vulnerable residents with no option but to pay for this essential resource. Residents say the accumulated rubbish has also led to unpleasant smells, raising concerns about the community's health and living conditions.
