Volunteers from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus hosted a back-to-school stationery drive for learners from Green Leaves Primary School in Okahandja Park last week. Sixty stationery packs were distributed, while 140 books, exam pads, notebooks and printer paper were handed over to the school. All the items were donated by Shincheonji members, and the packs include items like pencils, pens, rulers, scissors and other essential items.
“We believe that every learner deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their family’s financial situation or their social standing,” volunteer spokesperson Gift Katjiuonjo said. “This stationery drive is one small way we can make a big difference in the lives of these deserving learners.”
Numerous enthusiastic learners joined in on the celebrations organised by the volunteers on school premises, and cheer was the order of the day as members of the school’s choir delivered a musical performance.
The church is set to host similar back-to-school drives in communities and cities across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Bafokeng, as well as in Harare in Zimbabwe.
Shincheonji is an international church organisation which has branches across the world, with the Chinese word meaning ‘new heaven and new earth’.
