Capricorn Foundation launches food waste challenge

The Capricorn Foundation officially launched its 2022 food waste challenge last week.

Members of the public are encouraged to come up with creative methods to reduce food waste in the country, with the goal to find solutions to feed every Namibian in need.

“Another essential objective of the Capricorn Foundation food waste challenge is to encourage better collaboration between sources, distributors and beneficiaries of food,” Marlize Horn, the foundation’s executive officer, said.

Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) was also announced as the foundation's official media partner for the challenge.

Hennie Geldenhuys, chief marketing officer of Synergi Marketing, highlighted that NMH believes that through its network, it will connect Namibians and international stakeholders to collaborate and take responsibility for food insecurity challenges in Namibia.

Based on an open innovation platform, the foundation will award N$100 000 for the best solution in the challenge.

The best proposal will be chosen by a distinguished team of experts from diverse economic sectors after the submission deadline of 12 August.

“A solution to this problem would not only address the basic need of food security for the most vulnerable people in Namibia, but can also positively impact our society and improve the quality of life of many Namibians,” Horn said.

How do you enter?

The challenge is open to individual participants aged 16 or older,

teams of up to five individuals and businesses.

Participants can find out more about the challenge at capricornfoodwastechallenge.skild.com.
