Belgium to open embassy in Namibia next year
Belgium will open a resident embassy in Namibia in the first half of 2027. This follows Dr Alfredo Tjiurimo Hengari, Namibia’s Ambassador to Belgium, presenting his letters of credence to King Philippe at the Royal Palace in Brussels. Namibia-Belgium relations date back to the liberation struggle, with Belgium hosting a 1972 conference in support of Namibian independence. In 2024, Belgium was Namibia’s fifth-largest export market (N$7.86 billion). The embassy is expected to support trade, investment, renewable energy, green hydrogen, infrastructure, research, and technology cooperation.
