Apology
In our edition yesterday, 31 July, a story titled ‘I too have a right in Namibia’ erroneously attributed a quote to justice minister Yvonne Dausab (photo). The remarks should have, in fact, been attributed to activists supporting the minister against verbal attacks and abuse she has been subjected to in recent weeks. This after the Supreme Court in May ruled that same-sex marriages - solemnised abroad between Namibian citizens and foreign spouses – should be recognised in terms of the country’s immigration laws. When contacted by Namibian Sun last week, Dausab elected not to comment on the attacks, especially a letter written to President Hage Geingob calling for her removal as minister. We unreservedly apologise to the minister for any inconvenience caused.
