Windhoek joins global transport talks in Russia

A delegation from the City of Windhoek is attending the 5th International Transport Summit in Moscow, Russia, where city leaders and transport experts from around the world are discussing solutions to the growing challenges facing urban mobility.

More than 140 delegates representing 43 cities are taking part in the summit, which brings together governments, mayors, transport authorities, urban planners and industry leaders to share expertise on developing efficient, sustainable and resilient transport systems. Windhoek's participation comes as the city continues to face increasing traffic congestion and the pressures associated with a growing urban population. City officials say these challenges are common to many urban centres worldwide, making international collaboration increasingly important.

The summit provides an opportunity for participating cities to exchange ideas, examine successful transport models and explore practical approaches that could improve public transport, traffic management and long-term urban planning.

City officials say insights gained during the event will help inform efforts to strengthen Windhoek's transport network, improve mobility and support sustainable economic development while enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The Windhoek delegation is led by mayor Sakarias Uunona and includes councillor Ricardo Garoëb, CEO Moses Matyayi, strategic executive for urban transport and planning Pierre van Rensburg, and manager for external relations and networking Christopher Eita.

The delegation's participation has been facilitated by the government of Moscow. In addition to the conference programme, delegates are taking part in technical visits to observe Moscow's transport infrastructure and gain first-hand insight into the operation of its public transport systems and related facilities.
