Over 300 families moved as Havana upgrade gains pace

A total of 309 households have been relocated to Havana Extensions 8 and 11 as the City of Windhoek steps up efforts to improve access to basic services and organise informal settlements in the Moses //Garoëb Constituency.The progress was highlighted at a public meeting on Saturday at the Max Mutongolume TB Clinic, where residents raised concerns about safety, water and service delivery and received updates on development within their constituency.The relocated households have been positioned according to approved and proposed township layouts, creating clearer road networks and improving access for emergency vehicles. The City said the organised layout would make it easier for emergency services to reach residents.Havana Extension 8 has been approved by the Urban and Regional Planning Board, surveyed and is being registered at the Deeds Office. Extension 11 has been submitted to the board for consideration.Three townships on Farms 1028 and 1029 have received council approval and recommendations, while environmental impact assessments have been completed for all five planned developments.Another major project is the construction of a district hospital, which is expected to bring healthcare services closer to communities in the area.Progress has also been made in household surveying and land administration.Across the areas covered by the programme, 16 588 structures have been numbered and 10 887 households surveyed.A total of 7 318 certificates have been printed, with 6 115 already issued. In Moses //Garoëb, 1 500 water forms have also been issued.The City is continuing with household relocations, reorganisation, mapping and digitisation in several settlements, including Max Mutongolume, Kavikunua, Kambahahiza and Mandume Ndemufayo.
